Preventative Dentistry Can Save Your Teeth

Dentists will always recommend preventative dentistry. Certain procedures should be performed at regular dental visits. These may include routine examinations, x-rays and routine cleaning. It's more than a matter of maintaining proper dental hygiene; rather, it's an opportunity for the dentist and the hygienist to fully examine your teeth in relation to your last dentist visit. This is why routine dental visits are important. Taking preventative action can stop problems before they even start. It also corrects problems before they get worse, and will definitely find serious oral problems so they can be properly treated before it's too late.

Visit My Dentist USA today and get started on your preventative dental treatment today.

How Often Should I Visit The Dentist?

Regular check-ups are a must. At least every six months.

The most important step you can take to preserve your teeth and gums from decay and disease is to regularly visit the dentist for examinations, x-rays and cleanings. No matter how much you floss and brush, the only way to ensure long term oral health is to visit dentist.

The American Dental Association has identified dentist and dental hygienist visits as the most effective way one can stave off disease and decay. The center of oral preventative care is the dentist visit.

Are you looking for a certified, highly qualified and experienced cosmetic dentist in your area? Find the cosmetic dentist you've been looking for at My Dentist USA, your ultimate resource for certified cosmetic dentists.

What's the Point of Dental X-Rays?

Cosmetic Dentists have many techniques and technologies available to them to diagnose underlying problems that may not be apparent from a simple visual examination. One of those advanced technologies is the radiograph, or commonly known as the X-ray. The American Dental Association has determined that the X-ray examination enables the dentist to detect:
  • small areas of decay between the teeth or below existing restorations (fillings);
  • infections in the bone;
  • periodontal (gum) disease;
  • abscesses or cysts;
  • developmental abnormalities;
  • some types of tumors.

Time is always of the essence when dealing with teeth. The earlier the detection, the better. That's why it is best to have X-rays taken once a year, or more often if the condition of your teeth require more frequent check-ups. Avoiding the X-ray puts your teeth at risk of disease and puts your cosmetic dentist at a disadvantage in creating the most beautiful smile possible for you.

The study appears in the Journal of Periodontology. It was conducted by researchers including Nabil Bissada, DDS, chairman of the periodontics department at Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine.

Teeth Whitening: How White Will They Get?

The level of whiteness resulting from teeth whitening, or teeth bleaching, is dependent on the level of discoloration of your teeth. Overall, you can expect to see noticeable differences of at least 2-3 shades whiter, and sometimes more than that, closer to 5 or 6 shades lighter.

"The whiter, the better" isn't always what you're aiming for, though. The advantage to working with a trained teeth whitening specialist is that they can help you find the best, most natural shade that looks right on you.

Teeth whitening is a great way to enhance your smile, with noticeable difference, that can still appear 100% natural.

My Dentist USA features only the best cosmetic dentists who specialize in teeth whitening in your area.

Happy President's Day from My Dentist USA!

Cosmetic dentistry has been around a long time. Ancient Egyptian dentists were known to be practicing dentistry in the Old Kingdom as early as c.2650 BCE. Since then, dentists have been improving the smile of prominent figures throughout history such as our first President, George Washington, whose birthday we celebrate today. President Washington wore dentures made of ivory, not wood as most people think, to improve his smile.

Cosmetic dentistry has come a long way, indeed. Today, the First President would be fitted with dental implants which are permanent, fully functional teeth, rather than ivory dentures fashioned with human and animal teeth.

George wore ivory dentures to improve his smile. What lengths would you go to to improve yours?

My Dentist USA is your ultimate resource for cosmetic dentistry procedures and highly qualified, certified cosmetic dentists in your area.

Natural Looking Cosmetic Dentistry

Will people notice I had work done?

Whether or not people notice the difference a cosmetic procedure makes depends very much on the nature of the procedure performed. Dramatic differences, such as filling a gap in your teeth or orthodontics, will be noticeable. My Dentist USA featured cosmetic dentists are trained specifically to produce natural-looking results that enhance your look, not overpower it. Every patient is 100% unique, but it's true for everyone, that the more natural your teeth look, the better.

Funny as it is, a recent poll of patients who underwent cosmetic dentistry showed that the top 3 questions/statements after the procedure asked by friends and coworkers were:

a. Have you lost weight?
b. You seem to be full of energy all of a sudden, have you been working out?
c. Is that a new outfit?

It is not uncommon for some patients to be so overjoyed they cry, hug their nurse or dentist! Patient self confidence typically sky rockets. They feel more outgoing and more social.

Your friends and coworkers may notice that you smile more often. It really is incredible how much a new smile can change your life, both in the short term and the long term.

A New Approach to Gum Disease and Cold Sores

New laser technology has been developed and approved by the FDA to treat periodontal or gum disease. The laser is a light source from the infrared end of the spectrum that uses low energy power to treat gums, often without anesthesia. That's right, oftentimes no injections are needed, even with deep pockets. The low power of the laser kills bacteria that causes gum disease for up to three months (according to the leading periodontal journal), seals the vessels and nerve endings, and produces little if any pain for the first three days after the procedure. On the third day, the nerve endings begin to regenerate and what little pain there is can be managed quite well with Ibuprofen.

My Dentist USA is your resource for cutting-edge, emerging technology in the Cosmetic Dentistry industry.

What To Expect: Dental Implants

Dental implants are a revolutionary option for those who desire a more permanent solution to tooth replacement than dentures or bridges. It sounds like a great alternative to these other, non-permanent solutions.

But, what can you Expect from Dental Implants?

Initially, you have to consult with you cosmetic dentist to find out if you are right for the dental implants procedure. You will need to have healthy gums and enough bone in the area to hold the implant. You also must practice good oral hygiene. Just like all cosmetic dental procedures, each case is unique and some people will be, and some won't be a good candidate for this procedure. The only way to find out is by consulting with a cosmetic dentist, who can give you all your possible options.

The cosmetic dentist will place a tooth root implant, a small titanium post, into your bone socket of the absent tooth. It will take anywhere for 5 - 11 weeks for this to heal. While healing, the jawbone grows around the tooth root implant, which secures it into the jaw.

Once the dental implant is secure in the jawbone, an abutment (a tiny connector post) is attached to securely clutch the new tooth. In order for your cosmetic dentist to create your new tooth, he/she will make a molding or impression of your mouth, so a replica of you bite can be made, and your new tooth will be built around that. Your replacement tooth, a dental crown, is then attached. Your cosmetic dentist is able to match the color of your new tooth or teeth, to your natural teeth, for a natural look. The replacement tooth will feel natural, look natural and function naturally.

If you think you may be a candidate for dental implants, find a highly qualified cosmetic dentist in your area to schedule a personalized consultation today.

Gum Disease Periodontal Disease Symptoms and Prevention

There are many factors that contribute to periodontal disease, or gum disease. Although it is true that gum disease is primarily caused by plaque build-up, smoking, poor dental hygiene (such as leaving food between teeth for long periods of time because of badly aligned teeth), partial dentures or bridges that don't quite fit right, and poor diet are all contributing factors to periodontal disease. The real issue with plaque is that it builds up slowly, over a long period of time, so that the build-up doesn't cause any real pain until there's a problem.

That's why good dental hygiene and proper teeth alignment is so important to the health of your gums and, ultimately your teeth. If you can catch plaque build-up in it's beginning stages, the better chance you'll have of controlling or eliminating gum disease. Awareness of the signs of beginning gum disease is critical. Here are some of the typical symptoms of gum disease to watch out for:

  • bleeding gums
  • swollen, red gums
  • gums that have pulled away from your teeth
  • loose teeth or shifting teeth
  • halitosis or bad breath
These are only a few of the possible symptoms of gum disease. Ask your cosmetic dentist for more information on periodontal disease. If you suspect that you may suffer from gum disease, get checked out immediately. The longer you wait, the harder it will be to restore your gums and teeth.

For more information on periodontal disease, check out the American Dental Association's website.

Don't Underestimate the Importance of Your Smile

Think of the facial features that are most important to you. Which features stand out as the most important? Many people would say that your smile is the most important feature. Think about how a great smile has 'made' some important figures throughout history:

What would da Vinci's 'Mona Lisa' be without her beguiling smile?

Would Tom Cruise be the same without his pearly whites?

The most telling statistic, in reference to the importance of smiles, comes from the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. They found that 99.7% of all Americans believe a smile is an important social aspect. Close to 75% of adults feel an unattractive smile can hurt a person's chances for career success.

But, what defines an "unattractive smile?"

The most common responses were:

- Discolored, Yellow, or Stained Teeth
- Missing Teeth
- Crooked Teeth
- Decaying Teeth & Cavities
- Gaps & Spaces in Teeth
- Dirty Teeth

My Dentist USA features highly qualified, experienced cosmetic dentists in your area. Contact the best dentists in your area today and schedule a personalized, confidential consultation to see what possibilities await your smile.
