Protecting Your Teeth with Dental Crowns

A dental crown is a “cap” that is tooth-shaped, which is inserted over a tooth. It covers the tooth to restore the shape of the tooth, the size of the tooth, the appearance of the tooth or the strength of the tooth. Crowns are used to protect a tooth from further harm, assist a tooth with a large filling, cover misshapen teeth, or reinforce a weak tooth. Cosmetic Dentistry Crowns are cemented into place and fully cover the visible portion of the tooth.

There are three types of dental crowns, metal, porcelain fused to metal, and all ceramic or all porcelain. Metal crowns are ideal for molars and back teeth as they are metallic in color. They do have the benefit of being the most sturdy and least likely to chip or break. Dental crowns that are made of Porcelain fused to metal are not as durable as metal crowns but are still suitable for back teeth as well as front teeth. They have an added benefit of being able to be color matched to your teeth. All ceramic or all porcelain crowns provide the best match in tooth color but are the least durable. These crowns are best suited for front teeth.

A consultation with your cosmetic dentist will help you determine what type of crown fits your individual needs. Need help finding a cosmetic dentist in your area? Let My Dentist USA help you find a Board Certified Cosmetic Dentist near you!

A Whiter Brighter Smile with Teeth Whitening

Over time, our teeth can become discolored from teas, coffee, smoking or some foods. This discoloration can happen over time and does not mean that you haven't taken care of your teeth. Those that are unhappy with the discoloration of their teeth can visit a cosmetic dentist for a teeth whitening procedure.

Your cosmetic dentist will evaluate your teeth and decide the right steps to treat your teeth. The results you see will be based on the level of discoloration of your teeth. Most will see a noticeable difference of 2 to 3 shades while some will see 5 or 6 shades. This is a great way to keep your natural teeth but enhance your smile. Some may experience sore gums or sensitive teeth. The short term discomfort is usually worth the whiter, brighter smile.

A question that always arises is what is the difference between store bought whiteners and the procedure performed by a cosmetic dentist. Teeth Whitening is done on a case by case basis. To get the whitening results you are looking for, it is always best to see a Board Certified Dentist. My Dentist USA can help you find a Board Certified Dentist in your area. Click Here to search by state for the cosmetic dentist that will help you have the smile you deserve.
