Dental Crowns 101

For many going to the dentist is a fearful place. Here, we will provide some basic information about the various procedures that occur during the dentist patient process. Today we will touch on dental crowns. First, let's go over the basics of what a dental crown is, A dental crown is a “cap” that is tooth-shaped, which is inserted over a tooth. It covers the tooth to restore the shape of the tooth, the size of the tooth, the appearance of the tooth or the strength of the tooth.

Here are some of the benefits from dental crowns:

- protect your weak tooth from further harm, such as breaking or further cracking and deterioration

- refurbish an already broken tooth or a worn down tooth

- cover up extremely discolored teeth

If one of these issues describes one or more of your teeth, perhaps a dental crown may be for you!

Will My Friends Notice When I get Cosmetic Dentistry?

Whether or not people notice the difference a cosmetic procedure makes depends very much on the nature of the procedure performed. Dramatic differences, such as filling a gap in your teeth or orthodontics, will be noticeable. My Dentist USA featured cosmetic dentists are trained specifically to produce natural-looking results that enhance your look, not overpower it. Every patient is 100% unique, but it's true for everyone, that the more natural your teeth look, the better.

Funny as it is, a recent poll of patients who underwent cosmetic dentistry showed that the top 3 questions/statements after the procedure asked by friends and coworkers were:

a. Have you lost weight?
b. You seem to be full of energy all of a sudden, have you been working out?
c. Is that a new outfit?

It is not uncommon for some patients to be so overjoyed they cry, hug their nurse or dentist! Patient self confidence typically sky rockets. They feel more outgoing and more social.

Your friends and coworkers may notice that you smile more often. It really is incredible how much a new smile can change your life, both in the short term and the long term.

Juices, Tea Encourage Enamel Erosion in Teeth

It's no surprise that sugary colas and fizzy, carbonated drinks are bad for your teeth and promote tooth decay, but research recently conducted shows that the drinks that have always been promoted as being a better alternative for your teeth may be causing another problem: erosion. Juices, teas and energy drinks have been shown now to cause erosion of the precious, white enamel on teeth, leading to tooth decay that is more severe than that caused by normal tooth decay from sugar.

The results of tooth erosion is hypersensitivity, discoloration and cracks in teeth which are all irreversible conditions that can only be treated by replacing the tooth with a crown, dentures or dental implants. My Dentist USA features only the best Cosmetic Dentists who are all fully licensed and experienced Cosmetic Dentists specializing in preventative and restorative dental care.

Read the entire CNN article to discover more about how Juices, Tea and Energy Drinks Erode Teeth.

DDS or DMD - Which Should I Look For?

The acronyms stand for:

DDS - Doctor of Dental Surgery
DMD - Doctor of Dental Medicine

This designates the degree awarded to the dentist, from the dental school, upon graduation. There is no difference between the two, as both the DMD and DDS have the exact same education. Both degrees use the same curriculum requirements set by the American Dental Association's Commission on Dental Accreditation. To restate, the only difference is the title given by each particular university, as the educational requirements are the exact same.

Visit My Dentist USA today to find the most qualified dentist in your area!

What are Dental Crowns?

A dental crown is a "cap" that is shaped like a tooth, which is inserted over a tooth. It covers the tooth to restore its shape, size, appearance, and strength. The crowns are cemented into place and fully cover the visible portion of the tooth. The various types of dental crowns available are metal crowns, porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns and all-ceramic or all-porcelain crowns.

What is the difference between DDS and DMD, after the dentist's name?

Searching for a qualified, experienced Cosmetic Dentist can be hard enough without the confusion of accreditation - who is accredited and who isn't? How can I tell?

The accreditation acronyms stand for:
  • DDS - Doctor of Dental Surgery
  • DMD - Doctor of Dental Medicine

This designates the degree awarded to the dentist, from the dental school, upon graduation. There is no difference between the two, as both the DMD and DDS have the exact same education. Both degrees use the same curriculum requirements set by the American Dental Association's Commission on Dental Accreditation.

Again, the only difference is the title given by each particular university, as the educational requirements are the exact same.
