Dental Implants and Replacing Teeth - Cutting-edge Techniques

Every way you look at it, dental implants are a better solution to the problem of missing teeth. While high-tech in nature, dental implants are actually more tooth-saving than traditional bridgework, since implants do not rely on neighboring teeth for support.
  • Dental Implants are Esthetic: Dental implants look and feel like your own teeth! Since dental implants integrate into the structure of your bone, they prevent the bone loss and gum recession that often accompany bridgework and dentures. No one will ever know that you have a replacement tooth.
  • Dental Implants are Tooth-saving: Dental implants don't sacrifice the quality of your adjacent teeth like a bridge does because neighboring teeth are not altered to support the implant. More of your own teeth are left untouched, a significant long-term benefit to your oral health!
  • Increased Confidence: Dental implants will allow you to once again speak and eat with comfort and confidence! They are secure and offer freedom from the irksome clicks and wobbles of dentures. They'll allow you to say goodbye to worries about misplaced dentures and messy pastes and glues.
  • Dental Implants are Reliable: The success rate of dental implants is highly predictable. They are considered an excellent option for tooth replacement.

New Technology Makes Dental Implantation More Comfortable

Tomography, 3-D X-ray technology, is making dental implantation easier for the dentist and the patient. All the vital structures involved with dental implantation, such as nerves, bones and sinuses can be seen in 3-D making the placement of dental implants easier.

Before, dentists had to cut the gum to get to the bone to see where to place the implant. It was a long and arduous process that took days to place a tooth. Because bone density is different for individuals, the dentist had to guess where the ideal placement would be.

With tomography, dentists can see where there is a lot of bone, which is ideal for dental implantation. This not only reduces the amount of stress and trauma on the patient, but also makes the procedure faster, more precise and more natural - which of course makes for the best cosmetic result.

Dental Implants - The Answer to Missing Teeth

Losing a tooth by accident or by extraction is not the end of the matter. When a tooth is missing, the resulting gap will allow nearby teeth to tilt or drift from their normal position, and the teeth above the gap will move downward.

Aside from the obvious cosmetic problem, the changed positions of these teeth can lead to severe bite problems causing jaw pain and headaches.

Missing teeth should be replaced to keep other teeth in their normal position. This can be done by Dr. Morgan with a fixed bridge or a dental implant. Both of these treatments offer a good functional and cosmetic result.

What To Expect: Dental Implants

Dental implants are a revolutionary option for those who desire a more permanent solution to tooth replacement than dentures or bridges. It sounds like a great alternative to these other, non-permanent solutions.

But, what can you Expect from Dental Implants?

Initially, you have to consult with you cosmetic dentist to find out if you are right for the dental implants procedure. You will need to have healthy gums and enough bone in the area to hold the implant. You also must practice good oral hygiene. Just like all cosmetic dental procedures, each case is unique and some people will be, and some won't be a good candidate for this procedure. The only way to find out is by consulting with a cosmetic dentist, who can give you all your possible options.

The cosmetic dentist will place a tooth root implant, a small titanium post, into your bone socket of the absent tooth. It will take anywhere for 5 - 11 weeks for this to heal. While healing, the jawbone grows around the tooth root implant, which secures it into the jaw.

Once the dental implant is secure in the jawbone, an abutment (a tiny connector post) is attached to securely clutch the new tooth. In order for your cosmetic dentist to create your new tooth, he/she will make a molding or impression of your mouth, so a replica of you bite can be made, and your new tooth will be built around that. Your replacement tooth, a dental crown, is then attached. Your cosmetic dentist is able to match the color of your new tooth or teeth, to your natural teeth, for a natural look. The replacement tooth will feel natural, look natural and function naturally.

If you think you may be a candidate for dental implants, find a highly qualified cosmetic dentist in your area to schedule a personalized consultation today.

Cosmetic Dental Implants

Dental Implants are artificial tooth replacements that are used to counter tooth loss. Dental Implants can be used to replace single or multiple missing teeth. They can also be used to help stabilize or support removable partial and full dentures.

Today's dental implants are better than they have ever been. And with continued research, they will only get better. In the future, we can expect dental implants to become even more convenient.

Improvements will likely include shorter healing time, less time for restoration, simplicity of placement and restoration, and better aesthetic results.

Dental Implants

Imagine a tooth replacement that looks and feels much like your own natural tooth. Because dental implants can offer this and other benefits, they may be the best way to replace your missing teeth.

Dental implants consist of an artificial tooth root that is implanted into the jawbone and a restoration, or replacement tooth. Once the implant has been attached to the jawbone and a period of healing has passed, the replacement tooth is attached to the implant. Dentures can also be attached to implants, serving as replacement teeth.

Dissecting the Implant Procedure

Implant dentistry involves careful planning and highly trained and experienced dentist(s). The dentist must first discuss with the patient what their goals are, and then must give the patient all of their options, expected outcome, risks and benefits. The medical and social histories of the patient are also important. Diseases that affect the immune system such as diabetes, and habits that reduce blood flow and healing such as smoking, must be identified because they can reduce the success of implant surgery.

Breaking Technology in the Field of Dental Implants

Dental implants have been around for years, but with advances in X-rays, as well as dental technology, the world of dentistry is being rapidly enhanced with something once unheard of in the dental arena - comfort!

"With the use of tomography, which is basically a 3-D X-ray machine, dental implantation has never been easier on the patient," Dr. Fallah explains. "With tomography, all vital structures which are pertinent for dental implantation can be seen. From the nerves and bones to the sinuses, everything is shown in 3-D, adding precision to the placement of dental implants."
