Composite Bonding

Today we will be discussing one of the more popular surgical procedures. Composite Bonding is known as the reparation of chipped, broken, discolored or decayed teeth. For many people, these tooth conditions are reason for them to choose composite bonding as a surgical procedure. During the process, a dental composite material that resembles enamel is applied into the tooth cavity, or upon the surface. Then the composite is sculpted into shape, surrounding the tooth it is contoured and hardened with a high frequency light. The end result is a restoration that invisibly blends the composite and the remaining tooth structure, allowing you're natural smile to shine so bright.

Natural Looking Cosmetic Dentistry

Will people notice I had work done?

Whether or not people notice the difference a cosmetic procedure makes depends very much on the nature of the procedure performed. Dramatic differences, such as filling a gap in your teeth or orthodontics, will be noticeable. My Dentist USA featured cosmetic dentists are trained specifically to produce natural-looking results that enhance your look, not overpower it. Every patient is 100% unique, but it's true for everyone, that the more natural your teeth look, the better.

a. Have you lost weight?
b. You seem to be full of energy all of a sudden, have you been working out?
c. Is that a new outfit?

It is not uncommon for some patients to be so overjoyed they cry, hug their nurse or dentist! Patient self confidence typically sky rockets. They feel more outgoing and more social.

Your friends and coworkers may notice that you smile more often. It really is incredible how much a new smile can change your life, both in the short term and the long term.

Information on Dental Bonding

Cosmetic dental bonding is an excellent option for individuals who wish to repair imperfections in one tooth or several teeth.

How it works

Dental bonding uses a tooth-colored resin, a durable plastic material, to repair a variety of structural issues with your teeth, oftentimes for cosmetic surgery. The basic concept is that dental bonding applies a "cover" over any natural flaws in your current teeth, by applying a thin coat of plastic material on the front of them. It is hardened with a special laser that essentially bonds the material to the tooth to improve your smile.

Dental bonding is used to repair:
  • To repair decayed teeth (composite resins are used to fill cavities)
  • To repair chipped teeth
  • To repair cracked teeth
  • To improve the appearance of discolored teeth
  • Remove stains
  • To fill in gaps between your teeth
  • To change the shape of teeth
  • To protect a portion of the tooth's root that has been exposed when gums recede
If you think you're a candidate for dental bonding, check out our dental bonding page to see exactly what is included in this procedure.

Dental Crowns - What are they?

What are Dental Crowns?

A dental crown is a "cap" that is shaped like a tooth, which is inserted over a tooth. It covers the tooth to restore its shape, size, appearance, and strength. The crowns are cemented into place and fully cover the visible portion of the tooth.

Cosmetic Dentistry and Smoking - Not a Good Combination

We all know smoking is bad for you, but did you know that smoking may keep you from attaining that perfect smile you've always wanted?

We all know that the tar in cigarettes makes teeth turn yellow and smoking causes periodontal disease. But, if you're a smoker, it can also preclude you from certain cosmetic dental procedures such as implants and teeth whitening.

Dental implants work because they fuse with the jawbone. Smoking inhibits implant-to-bone integration (osseointegration).

Smoking also causes periodontal disease (gum disease) which can lead to dental implant failure.

If you smoke and are considering cosmetic dentistry, you'll need to quit smoking first. Consult a Board Certified Cosmetic Dentist in your area for more information on Cosmetic Dentistry and smoking.

Tooth-Colored Restorations - A Better Way

Do you have unnaturally colored, metallic fillings? Are you self-conscious when you smile or laugh? Have you experienced embarrassment as a result? Imagine being able to finally laugh out loud, or smile as wide as you would like, without anyone seeing your fillings. You can experience this great feeling with strong, beautiful, natural-colored restorations.

Most people want their teeth to look natural, and consequently many dentists do not use amalgam (silvered-colored) fillings. These unnaturally colored fillings have a darkening effect on the teeth, making them unappealing to look at. This is especially true when they are visible in the corners of your smile. But this isn't the only negative aspect of amalgam.
