What is Invisalign®?

Invisalign® is the newest method out there for correcting teeth irregularity and a good alternative to regular braces.

Invisalign uses clear, removable aligners to straighten your teeth, without the use of metal or wires. Unlike the old days, this is a method that allows you to straighten your smile, with a virtually invisible device.

It is commonly referred to as the contact lenses for teeth because it allows your teeth to straighten without anyone ever noticing!

And, they are removable, which allows you to eat and drink what you want and remove Invisalign while you brush your teeth or floss, allowing you to maintain good oral hygiene.

Treatment time is relatively short, anywhere from 6 months to 1 ½ years, but as everything, is on a case by case basis. After treatment, you will have to wear a retainer to keep your smile optimal.

Orthodontics: What to Expect

Your orthodontist will consult with you, and ask questions about your health and goals, to find out if you are a good candidate for the surgery. The orthodontist will also perform an exam, gather impressions of your teeth, take digital images of your face and teeth, and also take x-rays of your mouth. This is all very necessary as this will give you and the orthodontist realistic expectations of what this procedure can do for you. This information helps the orthodontist create a plan based on how best to treat your specific case.

The treatment time varies on a case by case basis, and is completely dependent on the severity of the problem. Key things that influence that, are the distance your teeth must travel, the overall health of your teeth, the amount of room available in your mouth and if you, the patient, follow the rules or guidelines given to you by the orthodontist.

Orthodontics - Getting the Facts Straight

Braces. Love them or hate them, they're here to stay. And as time passes there are newer and more efficient ways to get your teeth straight using braces. Gone are the days of wacky head gear, with new technology also comes new braces.

Invisalign is a new type of orthodontic or oral appliance, that is used to straighten teeth like braces, only without the need for metal brackets and painful wires. Although in certain cases the metal brackets are unavoidable, depending on the type and severity of your situation, you might be a candidate for Invisalign. The benefit of Invisalign? Like the name suggests, it's somewhat invisible. People won't know you're wearing braces. They fit like retainers would, only they're clear and are molded to your teeth.

In the case where you might need metal braces, tiny metal brackets are attached to your teeth and then a wire is run through to hold the brackets in place, "bracing" your teeth towards straightening. Although they can be uncomfortable, the metal braces have become a bit fashionable to some people rather than ugly and disdainful like they have in the past.

Why are Orthodontics Painful?

Sometimes, the adjustments made can be a little painful, because the teeth are being pulled into place. However, the pain is minimal and can be solved with a simple over the counter medicine, like Tylenol. Also, if you have intense pain, which is very rare, you should consult with your orthodontist, as he/she can change the way your adjustments are being made.

Orthodontics

Orthodontics is the specialty of correcting irregularity of your teeth. There are a couple procedures, such as braces and other devices specifically used to improve your smile. These methods work by applying continuous pressure to your teeth, over a period of time, to slowly redirect or move your teeth in a specific direction. Obviously, the goal is to give you the perfect straight smile.

Never too late for braces and straight teeth

The truth is, it's never too late to get braces. In fact, if you're on the fence about getting braces but feel you're too old to get them, you might want to keep reading.

Now a days, adults make up nearly half of orthodontic patients. That's good news for those who feel like getting braces was a "kid" thing.

With advances in dental technology as well as medical breakthroughs braces have evolved over the years. Especially now with lightweight and cosmetically friendly options available.

Getting braces is more than just straight teeth. Teeth that have a cross bite, or are misaligned have an increased chance of getting plaque buildup, which can lead to an increased chance in getting periodontal and gum disease. And if you aren't chewing and digesting your food properly, it can lead to gastrointestinal problems.

Has the idea of getting braces crossed your mind? Maybe it's time you looked into it. My Dentist USA will help you find the perfect dentist and orthodontist for you to help you get started on the smiley, straight teeth you've always wanted.
