With the advent of contemporary esthetic dental materials, dentists can now perform very conservative tooth preparations to improve both function and esthetics of the worn dentition. The technique of using etched porcelain veneers to enhance a patient's smile has become increasingly popular over the past 25 years. Porcelain veneers offer clinicians a superior treatment alternative to porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) crowns and even to all-ceramic crowns, especially when the goal is to alter the color and/or shape of the teeth.
