What are Porcelain Veneers?

Porcelain veneers, or “dental veneers,” can change the appearance of teeth that are chipped, worn, stained, crooked, or generally damaged. A porcelain veneer acts as a thin shell, covering the surface of a tooth. Porcelain veneers are bonded directly to the front of teeth with adhesive cement for an immediate improvement in the shape and color of each tooth.

The color of porcelain veneers can be matched to the color of a patient’s teeth. And because dental veneers are made of porcelain, a glassy composition, they are resistant to staining. Porcelain veneers reflect light in a similar way as tooth enamel, and can be buffed and shaped to look just like natural teeth.

The entire porcelain veneer cosmetic dentistry procedure normally takes only three visits to our Memphis office. In the first visit the patient will discuss the procedure with the cosmetic dentist. During this initial consultation the dental patient will have the opportunity to discuss how the final smile should look. Please feel free to bring pictures of ideal smiles to your initial consultation! During the second appointment the teeth will be prepared for the porcelain veneers and a mold will be made of the teeth. In the final appointment porcelain veneers, designed specifically for the patient, will be placed on the teeth.

Porcelain veneers have become popular in the time that they have been available because they are natural looking, durable, and long-lasting.

What is Composite Bonding?

Composite bonding is a process in which durable, enamel-like resin is applied to a tooth, sculpted to an ideal shape, hardened by light, and polished to a natural-looking luster. Beautiful results can be completed in just one appointment.

What are Metal-Free Crowns & Bridges?

Sometimes a beautiful smile takes work that is a bit more involved. If you notice strain when biting down, pain during chewing, or difficulty in speaking due to misaligned or missing teeth, bridges might be the right option for you. They work by literally bridging the gaps between missing teeth, closing spaces with durable, injury-resistant, realistic-looking artificial teeth. Because they are semi-permanent, bridges can be removed only by a dentist but are long-lasting and strong.

What are Porcelain Onlays?

Ugly mercury fillings are a thing of the past-our practice specializes in using only the most modern, safe, tooth-colored onlays to repair teeth and dental injuries. Made of a sturdy porcelain or resin, the onlays are much more comfortable and likely to stay intact than their metal counterparts.

What is Teeth Whitening?

Everyone feels more attractive with a gleaming, bright-white smile. But soft drinks, coffee, tea, tobacco, and other dark foods and drinks leave ugly stains on our teeth. We at the Germantown Dental Group - located in beautiful Tennessee - offer a wide range of tooth whitening options to restore teeth to dazzling perfection and to provide an extra boost of confidence.

Zoom Whitening
The Germantown Dental Group in Tennessee uses a tooth whitening procedure called Zoom Whitening. Zoom Whitening is one of the safest, quickest, and most effective techniques in tooth whitening available today. During the Zoom Whitening procedure, teeth are coated with a whitening gel that contains a ph-balanced hydrogen peroxide, and are exposed to a light that activates whitening. The tooth whitening procedure usually takes an hour and dramatically whitens teeth.

At-home tooth whitening
At-home tooth whitening takes longer than in-office tooth whitening, but can have equally effective results. In our Memphis office, molds are taken of the patient's teeth. These molds are made into mouthguards that serve to hold whitening gel, and at the same time protect the gums and lips. At-home tooth whitening treatment is done in two-hour blocks, or during the night for about two weeks.

In-office tooth whitening and at-home tooth whitening, in conjunction with an ongoing dental hygiene regime, can have results that last for years.

What are Dental Implants?

Dental implants can have impressive results for patients missing teeth. Through the use of dental implants, our Memphis cosmetic dentists can attach individual teeth, partial dentures, or full dentures in a patient’s jaw. Dental implants are attached to the bone via an “anchor” and are semi-permanent.

How do dental implants work?

Dental implants are artificial teeth attached below the gum line using an anchor. The anchor holds the implant in place, allowing bone and gum to grow around it. Each implant will be made to look like a natural tooth, fitting the structure of the patient’s mouth. The end result is a strong, secure tooth that is virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth.

To be a candidate for dental implants, a patient must have adequate bone structure to support the implant anchor. Bone tissue must grow around the anchor and hold it in place. In addition to sufficient bone tissue, a dental implant patient must have healthy gums.

What is Oral Sedation?

Oral sedation from Germantown Dental Group gives many of our Memphis-area patients who experience anxiety about dental procedures the confidence to have the treatment they need.

In preparation for a visit to our practice, the patient takes a prescription tablet to begin relaxing away anxiety. By the time of the procedure, the patient will be fully relaxed and will have little or no memory of the procedure having taken place.

Besides relieving anxiety, oral sedation provides many of our Memphis-area patients a comfortable and convenient way to undergo extended treatment sessions. Instead of several visits, the patient can sleep right through a single, long session.

What is Invisalign Orthodontics?

Germantown Dental Group offers the Invisalign® orthodontics solution for straightening teeth without metal braces. Instead of traditional wires and brackets, Invisalign® uses as series of soft, clear plastic aligners that are molded to slip over the teeth. Based on computer images of your progress, a new set is fabricated about once a month, each one moving the teeth a little closer to the goal.

Our Germantown and Memphis patients enjoy the freedom Invisalign® provides. The aligners are removed for eating, drinking, and brushing. When they're back in place, they're nearly invisible; most people may not notice you're wearing them.

For most patients, straightening teeth with Invisalign® takes about the same time as with standard metal braces.
